RANCHI: The state government on Wednesday approved a recommendation made by the Tribal Advisory Council to become a guarantor for tribal students, seeking educational loans above Rs 7.5 lakhs.
At present, an education loanof up to Rs 7.5 lakhs can be availed without any security but to get a higher amount, a guarantor is needed.
In the case of a defaulter, a fund named Chief Minister Higher Education Fellowship Scheme worth Rs 50 crore will be made available to the students.
A committee headed by Rural Development minister Nilkanth Singh Munda has been constituted to assure that the loan is provided to the tribal students without any delay.
Also, banks have been directed to make a web-portal to update the status of the loans or reason behind the delay or non-sanctioning of education loans.
Raghubar Das said, “The government is committed to ensure that the students are not prevented from pursuing higher studies due to lack of funds.”
“Tribal children are very intelligent and hard working but they are not able to complete their education without financial support,” he added.
