AHMEDABAD: Atleast three schools affiliated to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board have been put under scanner of the District Education Officer for following the syllabus of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The GSHSEB had directed the concerned DEO to examine the syllabus of each school and check if the academic sessions were being held according to the CBSE syllabus. Following this directive, the Ahmedabad DEO began investigation and checked the syllabus of schools in Ahmedabad city and rural areas.
The DEO formed different teams which checked 20 schools in rural and city areas. Officials said that during the inspection two schools on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city and one in Vejalpur were marked as suspicious owing to their course curriculum. Sources said that despite being affiliated to the GSHEB these three schools were imparting education in class I to VIII as per CBSE syllabuses. District Primary Education Officer MP Mehta who had teams inspect schools in the sub-urban and rural stretches of Ahmedabad district said, “Three schools are under suspicion while more schools are being inspected. If found guilty of disregarding GSHSEB syllabus and following CBSE syllabus, we will recommend punitive action. The GSHSEB authorities will then take a decision on the matter.”
The DEOs were asked to conduct the investigation after a few schools in Rajkot were found to be teaching CBSE syllabus despite being affiliated to the GSHSEB. After this irregularity was came to light education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama had commissioned an inquiry into the issue on Tuesday.
