Kongu Welfare Trust disbursed close to ₹ 3.66 crore as scholarship to as many as 1,530 students of Kongu Engineering College, Kongu Polytechnic College, Kongu Arts and Science College, Kongu National Matriculation School, and Kongu School of Architecture during the annual Academic Excellence Award function on Monday.

The scholarship covered academic excellence cash prize for top 5 % of students, AICTE Few Waiver Scheme, University Fee Waiver Scheme, Sports Quota, free education assistance by KVIT Trust, assistance for government school students and those belonging to KNMS, concession for children of staff, government school students in first year who had scored above 375 marks in SSLC, and students who were top scorers in levels XI and XII.

Justice K. Kalyanasundaram, Judge, Madras High Court, presented the awards to students in the presence of Kongu Welfare Trust president Parameswari Lingamurthy, Trust patron member P.C.Palanisamy, and heads of the institutions.

In his address, Justice Kalyanasundaram urged students to keep looking for opportunities and make the best use of them. Unlike a few decades ago, when gaining admission in educational institutions and securing employment was easy, the students now were under compulsion to put up top performance in a scenario of fierce competition, he said.

Desire to succeed must necessarily be accompanied by self confidence and persistent efforts, he emphasised, and advised students to keep looking at future progress rather than brooding about past.

Teachers, Justice Kalyanasundaram said, need to keep updating their knowledge to be in a position of clearing doubts of students, as also identify the unique talents inherent in students, particularly slow learners, and create opportunities for their growth in areas suiting their aptitude.
