The Supreme Court on Friday set aside a Patna High Court order granting bail to former RJD MP Mohd. Shahabuddin in a murder case. A Bench of Justices P.C. Ghose and Amitava Roy ordered Bihar government to take Shahabuddin back into custody “forthwith”. ELKO – Elko County schools have received grant funds to improve distance learning and provide telemedicine to students. Elko County School District was recently notified it would receive $431,255 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. National Student Loan Cohort Default Rate Declines Steadily

The U.S. Department of Education today announced that the three-year federal student loan cohort default rate dropped from 11.8 percent to 11.3 percent for students who entered repayment between fiscal years 2012 and 2013. The trend has moved downward since FY 2010, when the cohort default rate stood at 14.7 percent. It’s the third straight year that the overall rate has fallen. WASHINGTON—The share of borrowers defaulting on student loans within three years of leaving college has fallen modestly, though the number remains exceptionally high despite low unemployment. The government has diluted equity requirements for the higher education financing agency (HEFA) after potential partners expressed their inability to infuse Rs1,000 crore into the vehicle meant to fund educational institutions at market rates. Instead of the Rs2,000 crore equity portion that the cabinet approved earlier this month, with Rs1,000 crore coming from the government, HEFA will now have Rs1,050- 1,100 crore of equity that will be used to raise funds from the markets for lending to educational institutions.
