BENGALURU: The application window for UK’s prestigious and fully-funded Chevening scholarship and fellowship programmes is now open. Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.
The Chevening India programme is the largest in the world, offering up to 120-fully paid scholarships and fellowships this year. Some 2500 people make-up the body of Indian Chevening alumni.

Speaking in Bengaluru on Friday, British Deputy High Commissioner in Bengaluru, Dominic McAllister, said,”The UK welcomes the brightest and best international students to our world-class universities. The UK in India hosts the largest Chevening country programme in the world, with a £2.6 million budget to fund about 120 fully-funded scholarships for future Indian leaders.”

Speaking ahead of the formal launch on August 9 in New Delhi, Dominic AsquithKCMG, British High Commissioner to India, said: “Those selected for the Chevening programme will join a global network of influencers and leaders. Not only do scholars receive a first-rate British education that will enhance their careers, they also join the living bridge of people and ideas between the UK and India, strengthening our mutual understanding and friendship. I’m delighted that the India programme remains the largest offered by the British Government globally and look forward to building new and lasting relationships with the new batch of Chevening alumni.”

McAllister while talking about number of students going for studies in UK also added that, over 90% of students from India who apply for visa get one. In the year ending March 2017 we issued over 11,600 Tier 4 visas, a 9% increase on the previous year. Region-wise break-up is not available but please note that in terms of percentages, in 2016, 95% of student entry clearance visa applications were approved, a number that has risen every year since 2010. The proportion of Indian students coming to study in the UK at a university has increased from around 50% in 2010 to around 90% in 2015. Over 90% of Indian students who apply for a UK visa get one. This is up from 86% in 2014 and 83% the year before that.
