MU SUMMARILY FLUNKED US IN SOCIOLOGY: MA STUDENTS

The problems of students at the University of Mumbai refused to subside as several of them pursuing a Master of Arts course at its distance learning centre (IDOL) complained of being summarily flunked in their Sociology paper.

The students claim that out of a batch of 100, only 11managed to clear the exam with a score that hovered around 40, which is the passing score.

“Not a single student has scored above 50 even though we got first class in our undergraduate course; there is no response from the authorities. Who will take accountability for the year we have lost? And the money lost?” said the 29-year-old Navnath Kamble, an aggrieved student.

He said that giving their papers for re-evaluation will delay the process further after witnessing a delay of two months in the declaration itself.

“We are all working which compounds our problem whereas some of us have kids to tend to,” he said. Nearly 50 students had all descended upon the examination department at the Kalina Campus of the University of Mumbai where they state that they were asked to submit their papers for re-evaluation.

Arjun Ghatule, acting director, board of examination and evaluation, remained unavailable despite repeated calls and texts.

Trying to declare results by September 19: MU in HC

Having missed the initial deadline by over a month and six extensions later, the Mumbai University told the Bombay High Court today that it was “trying” to declare all the results and deliver mark sheets by September 19.

Rodrigues argued that one must remember that the work was not being done by “robots”, but it was “ultimately being delivered by humans”. “However, we have completed most of the work and are trying to declare all the results for regular undergraduate courses by September 19. The results for courses offered through distance learning will take some more time,” he said.

The court then directed the states Common Entrance Test (CET) cell to extend its deadline for applying to the three-year postgraduate law course to September 22.
