The recruitment drive of Special Police Officers (SPOs) being carried out by Gurgaon police evoked a warm response with applicants from across Haryana submitting applications for the job.
Ex-servicemen from all services and former employees of Haryana State Industrial force are eligible to apply for the one-year contract job.
Both men and women from across the state submitted 275 forms on Monday that will be scrutinised by the recruitment board constituted by the Gurgaon police.
Long queues were seen at the Gurgaon police commissionerate where these forms were being submitted.
Gurgaon police will get 275 SPOs of the 1,500 being recruited by the department across the state to augment the police force.
“Gurgaon has always been given priority in allotment of new police personnel as it has a large population and the police here face many challenges,” said Muhammad Akil, ADGP, Haryana Police.
The police is currently short by 900 officials and it is expected that the addition of these SPOs would act as a force multiplier.
The SPOs would be paid ₹14,000 per month as honorarium and will be appointed close to but not in their home police stations.
They will undergo a training for 15 days in which they will be taught about traffic management, law and order duties, and similar police work.
